Paul Dew is a Melbourne based artist exploring work and life balance through sculptural assemblages of a figurative, industrial nature. These artworks consider production roles within manufacturing, contrasted with personal life activities and aims and are a negotiation of time spent and lost through the numerous obligations dividing life. Paul Dew draws on his own manufacturing production experience coming under economic and competitive pressures, reflecting on priorities askew, tensions, overloads and fractured time in both contemporary life and the workplace. Industrial materials of structure and silhouette are contrasted to describe balance, counterbalance and implied movement.
